NATIONAL SAFETY DAY - 2023
Every year on March 4th, National Safety Day is observed with the goal of promoting a secure workplace and guaranteeing people's safety in all spheres. The goal of the day is to increase public awareness of safety precautions and protocols so that any unfavorable incident can be avoided. The 52nd National Safety Day will be observed with the motto "Our Aim - Zero Harm" this year.
The event provides a chance to emphasize the importance of the value of safety measures and precautions in preventing accidents. It aims to broaden the movement for safety, health, and the environment (SHE). The day's goals include encouraging stakeholders from various industrial sectors to get involved in the SHE movement by bringing them together, promoting SHE initiatives, and reminding employees, employers, and everyone else involved that they must take the necessary steps to create a safer workplace.
- To spread the Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE) movement across the nation.
- To achieves participation of major players at various levels in various industrial sectors.
- To encourages employers to use a participative approach by involving their staff in SHE activities.
- To encourages employers to the creation of need-based initiatives, self-compliance with legal obligations, and expert SHE management systems at work.
- To includes sectors in the SHE movement that are not legally covered.
- To emphasize that it is the responsibility of both employers and employees to make the workplace safer.
The Ministry of Labour and Employment of the Government of India hosted the first Conference on Industrial Safety in 1965. From December 11 to December 13, it was held in collaboration with employers' organizations, state governments, and additional trade unions and institutions. It was acknowledged at the conference that National and State Safety Councils were necessary.
The Standing Labor Committee's 24th session in February 1966 approved the National Safety Council (NSC) proposal. The NSC was established on March 4 of the same year by the Ministry of Labor and registered as a public trust under the Bombay Public Trust Act of 1950 after first becoming a society under the Societies Registration Act of 1860. In order to commemorate the National Safety Council's founding and promote safety awareness, the National Safety Day was first observed in 1971.
